Oof, Whiskey Corridor has never been one of the missions I was good at in AC04. I'm not around my PS2 at the moment right now, but I'll edit in the best I've got once I can.
EDIT: huh, I got 7510 points on Expert difficulty. would've imagined something around 6000, but I'll take it. I won't bother trying to top it, since I haven't picked up AC04 in a while now.
My highest score on the emulator is 6,700 points. If I had a working PS2, I'd love to see what my highest scores were on my memory card, but all I have is the emulator, which I haven't played enough of yet.
As for the highest score ever achieved... there was a fansite called ShatteredSkies.net. It's dead now, but it's still available through the Web Archive. (Be careful - there is a little fan material here and there; do not add information from SS.net to Acepedia, as we've had to remove it countless times before.) On July 24, 2002, they published the results of their first AC04 tournament, and there are some stupid high scores there. For Whiskey Corridor, they attributed a score of 9,490 points to a player named "Klintc".
Wow... What plane did you use (if you remember)? I used the Su-47 with the unguided bomb. (That was back before I got the X-02)*
(Back when it was the only game I ever played. Got it for $9.00 used in 2004 with my ps2 "?slim?". STILL works like a charm!)
Hmm, the plane I used... It was either the F-15S MTD with the FAEB or the Su-37 with the UGBL. It's really necessary to use the large bombs since the targets are mostly spread out. One thing I would reccomend is ( if you really wanna knock the socks off of people) to try and practice on the first trial mission. That mission helps build your skill of taking down targets precisely and efficiently, which is one of the things you'll be doing when you're not chucking bombs and moving across areas. That's all I can really say for sure since I haven't picked up the game for some time now (I also can't confirm aircraft because I'm currently going on a trip to Europe) so it'll be up to you to make a good score.
It's been awhile but I think it was between 7,500 and 8,200. Was most likely using the Wyvern. Freely use large unguided bombs in the 2 areas closest to the resupply line, then quickly switch to missles and target enemies that can be destroyed in a single shot. With proper aiming, bombs can easily take out groups of 3 vehicles or more, not just 2.
Then, slow your speed down, turn around, and make another firing run. On your final bombing run, pick up speed and either resupply or head to the other combat zone closest to the resupply line (If I remember correctly, I resupplied at least 2, if not 3 times).
Don't forget that your machine gun exists. Since pillboxes take 2 missles to destroy, the machine gun is a better weapon for them, or at least a better choice until you can fire missles again.
Once all ground targets are destroyed, resupply again and switch to QAAMS.
This last part takes some learning, but memorize the layout of some of the combat zones. The fewer times you have to sweep through the area the better.
What do you think?
