After I allowed squadrons to have a home at Acepedia, the following two things happened:
- Only one squadron was created, which everyone joined.
- That single squadron thread became a home for almost all Ace Combat Infinity discussion.
This meant we only had one squadron, rather than multiple users creating multiple squadrons, which completely defeats the purpose of having squadrons at all. Plus, since Wikia doesn't support pagination on forum threads, the thread became filled with 800+ replies and was impossible to load for users with slow internet connections or using a mobile browser.
This is a point when I'd like to remind everyone that we have a Skype group for Acepedia, where we discuss all the games and especially Infinity and the wikia. Wikia's Chat module does not work Additionally, Acepedia does not seem to be a place where users see fit to create squadrons; I've seen communities on Ace Combat Skies and Facebook see more success with squadron formation.
From here, I only see two options to keep the community active and discussion healthy for everyone to participate in:
- End Acepedia Squadrons (again).
- Restrict squadron threads to only talking about the squadron and their activities. Maybe also restricting the number of people that can be in a squadron, to encourage multiple squadrons.
Personally, I am completely fine with either option - we can easily shut down squadrons since only one was ever created, but I can also easily enforce rules to prevent another full-blown Infinity discussion thread and to encourage multiple squadrons. To be honest, I'm leaning towards shutting down squadrons, but I'd like to get everyone's opinion on the situation.
