I'm also not very good at dogfighting. But when I do it, I prefer to use a setup with 4AAM and parts that increase its accuracy, like sp. homing and sp. speed parts.
Just get some high-accuracy and high-speed standard missiles and predict the pattern of the enemies when firing a gun. It's all on when you should fire your weapon at the enemy.
always keep your speed up, stay focused and keep a eye on your six.
as for parts if you want to get in close, have parts that improve mobility and speed up turning such as the high role and ascent/descent parts, the Enhanced Engine Nozzle is also a good way to keep speed up going in or out of dogfights.
improveing your fighters top speed is only realy needed if you employ the joust method of attacking ie. going flying into the main dog fight, take out any targets directly ahead, then flying out form the oppersit side and geting some distance beween you and your targets before comeing around for another go.
the New Stealth Coating comes highly recommended as it makes it harder for missiles to keep a lock on you, and will reduces your presence on radar. although all extra armor can go a long way to improving your survival rate.
as for missiles, upgrade your stranded missile first. as these are what you are mostly going to rely on up close. i find its best to do it in this order:
+homing, get it as high as possible, because your going to need to hit your target before anything else is needed
+speed, i recommend at least a M+ part on this as the faster it gets towards your target the less time they have to react.
+power, this can be added last as once you have hit the target you will want to be doing as much damage as possible per hit.
adding parts to improve fire rate and lock-on speed are not as necessary (in my view) as i assume your after the single very mobile target, this means less chances of finding a opening to attack. thus its best to go for the best results with those few openings instead of trying to spam or blind fire your missiles up close.
using special weapons is recommended for firing at longer rages, and fire and forget situations. hope this helps.
Thank you for all the tips. :) what plane would you prefer to use in a dog fight?
