You can if you try hard enough ;)
There are no aerodynamic components in Ace Combat. You accelerate and decelerate at specific coded rates. When you stall your aircraft in a 90 degree vertical climb the nose of the aircraft always drops to -80 degrees and you accelerate to 180 knots. This keeps you from crashing but doesn't help if you are trying to do a cobra to bleed speed. Also since there is no air-pressure simulated in the game and no thrust to weight components in the game. It becomes impossible to simulate the yaw physics to be able to do a kulbit. Even if they tried it would completely unrealistic to perform a Kulbit at 80,000 feet. Another issue being your aircraft is as agile fully loaded as it is when its empty. So in short no, there hasn't been an Ace Combat game or a game in general that could accurately simulate the conditions needed to perform a cobra or a kulbit. And to be honest its debatable if a cobra is even possible in a real dog fight.
So let me actually answer your question, Roundtable7R.
Yes, the intent is that we SHOULD be able to do those Cobra and Kulbit maneuvers manually. We won't have DFM in Ace Combat 7; Kono has said that we'll manually be able to perform those maneuvers, but they haven't shared any details about it yet, it's probably still in development. That trailer, between the F-18 and Su-30, was our first ever look at it.
ImGoinIn, they don't have to actually simulate those mumbo jumbo to give us the ability to execute the maneuvers, ya know? ACAH is a fine example for that.
@ sylvered sure they can put in a cut scene for it. But that's not the same as actually controlling a flight stick and performing a maneuver only possible in perfect aerodynamic conditions. And yeah we will never be able to do a kulbit unless they want to completely break the game. youtube.com/watch?v=zCIsLc-rdMo
I wonder which AC game has the "perfect" aerodynamic conditions. My point is that if AH let us do it with the push of just 2 buttons, then all they have to do to let us do it manually is to implement a brake function of sorts.
Yeah and pushing two buttons is not the same as slowing down to the perfect velocity at a proper angle and slamming your flight stick back as far as it can go. Then apply more thrust to stay vertical right before your plane starts to stutter and shake. Then go to max thrust to level yourself from the stall.
All I'm saying is doing a stall in real life vs in a game is two different things. In real life a pilot can't do a cobra going 2000 kmph unless they want to die. In real life a pilot won't do a kulbit at 80,000 feet because they won't be able to recover from the flat spin they will but themselves in at that altitude due to no air pressure.
If the devs put those things in the game without addressing the physics they will give the Su-27 through 57 and Mig 29 through 35, not to mention the fictional aircraft impossible to counter advantages. You don't delay a game 2 years to release it broken.
PS: Those aircraft who can perform those maneuvers don't use an air-brake to do it. They use the aerodynamics of the airplane.
No, you still don't get it. Manual isn't necessarily realistic. I keep scratching my head when you keep giving us lectures about aerodynamics and aviation when the series can disregard some of the laws of physics as mumbo jumbo. Still, I appreciate what you said since they're knowledge nevertheless.
Come to think of it, some Parts in ACI, along with sufficient plane level, can get you closer to executing some of the maneuvers. Since we have seen a part of the same tuning system in AC7, we might see their promise realized.
