The AV-8B Harrier II is a second generation vertical/short takeoff and landing ground-attack aircraft manufactured by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing). Developed from the British Hawker Siddley Harrier, it is the last member of the harrier family but not the last VTOL (vertical take off/landing) aircraft in the United States.

The AV-8B in Ace Combat 2 is an uncommon fighter aircraft used by the Usean Rebel Force. Two Harrier squadrons are seen in the missions "Seagull" and "Power Play".
Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies
In Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies, the AV-8B Harrier II is a VTOL fighter aircraft used by the Federal Erusean Air Force. A number of fifteen units appear throughout the mission "Tango Line", each of which provides 60 points when destroyed, making for a total of 900 points.

Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War
The Sea Harrier F.2 in Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War is a fighter aircraft used by the Yuktobanian Air Force. It is seen in "Rendezvous", where several aircraft attack the Osean carriers OFS Kestrel, Vulture and Buzzard. They reappear in "Front Line", where the Scinfaxi launches several Harriers as well as F-35C Lightning IIs to defend itself from Wardog Squadron. As well as in mission 12A : "Powder Keg" there are a few Harriers.
Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War
The AV-8B Harrier II Plus is a fighter aircraft used by the Belkan Air Force. Several Harriers are seen in the mission "Glatisant", where a number of squadrons take off from the HQ at the northeast of the combat zone. Also in mission "Merlon" in Operation Beta, two Harriers will spawn from the base if you destroy some non-critical J35J.
Ace Combat: Joint Assault
In mission 6 Desert Dawn, an AV-8B Harrier II ace named SPHINX is spawned on top of a pyramid after destroying 4 Apache helicopters surrounding it. This makes the aircraft's sole appearance in the game.

- On the picture above labeled 'An AV-8B on the ground', you can see that the front landing gear is deployed but the landing gear on the wings are not set down, this would make the craft topple over to one side or the other in real life.
