AWACS Ghost Eye is the Emmerian AWACS in the video game Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. He assists Garuda Team during most of the game but also provides support for the other characters.

Anean Continental War

Ghost Eye took part in the entire war, from the first battle to the last. His first appearance was during the invasion of Gracemeria. He was in charge of all Emmerian aircraft defending the city. He relayed the retreat order to the pilots, ordering them to retreat to Khesed Island. Though many of the pilots were relunctant, They were persuaded to follow the order and head for the rendezvous point, presumably Khesed Island.

Ghost Eye then became the only AWACS for the main Emmerian force that had retreated to Khesed. He helped the REAF stop B-52 bombers from destroying Campagna Airport, supervised the counterattack on Sipli Field, and directed Emmerian forces attacking Bartolomeo Fortress. He then lead Emmerian forces as they invaded Rargom Beach and the near-by city of Ortara to establish a foothold on mainland Anea.

When Garuda Team was sent to assist Emmerian forces fighting off the Estovakian siege at Silvat Town, Ghost Eye oversaw the operation. He commanded the Emmerian aircraft escorting REA units moving through Selumna Peak and later commanded them as they attacked San Loma. He then was in charge of the attack on the Estovakian Aerial Fleet. After its destruction, he led the aircraft attacking Ragno Fortress.

The next target for Emmeria was the Moloch Desert, Estovakia's last line of defense before Gracemeria. However, just as Emmerian forces were on the verge of winning, Ghost Eye stated that he was receiving an emergency message. After a pause, he started yelling at Emmerian forces to cease fire and retreat immedieately. He ordered them to get out of the area ASAP. However, Garuda Two Shamrock refused to follow the order, due to the fact that his wife and daughter lived in Gracemeria, and he wanted to get there immedieately. Ghost Eye tried to get Shamrock to follow the order, but Shamrock stubbornly refused and stayed behind to fight with the newly arrived members of Strigon Team. Unable to leave his wingman, Garuda One Talisman was forced to stay as well. After they had shot down all of the Strigon pilots, Ghost Eye told them, in a quiet, harsh voice, "You've made a huge mistake."

Ghost Eye then supervised as Garuda Team was sent to destroy the WMD catalyst being held at Fort Norton. After they had destroyed it, Garuda Team was intercepted by a large formation of aircraft, which included electronic warfare aircraft. Ghost Eye called other REAF pilots to come back them up, and, with their help, the EAF planes were all shot down.

Next, he returned to Gracemeria, this time coordinating the invasion, instead of the defense. After Gracemeria was recaptured by the Emmerians, he told them the war was over, which most Emmerians seemed to believe.

That night, he supervised the air patrols around the city, and was the first to detect the high speed unidentified flying objects which turned out to be some form of capsule carrying cruise missiles. He then supervised the defense of the city. With his help, the Emmerian forces were able to locate the position of Chandelier, the weapons' source.

After that, Ghost Eye lead the REAF into the final battle of the war, and the only battle to take place in Estovakian territory, the attack on the Chandelier. As Emmerian aircraft approached, he and the other pilots picked up on the radio transmissions from Melissa Herman and her daughter Matilda. Though he initially thought they were trying to disrupt their attack, Shamrock was able to convince him to "hear her out first." Melissa then sent Ghost Eye the blueprints for the Chandelier, which he forwarded to the Emmerian pilots.

After all of the main cooling units of the railgun were destroyed, Shamrock flew into the gun's loading trench on a recon mission. As soon as Ghost Eye got the needed data, he ordered Shamrock to pull up. Shamrock got out of the trench, but the heavy AAA around it had shattered his plane. After Shamrock's off-screen ejection, Ghost Eye showed strong emotion by yelling "Marcus! Marcus!" This was also the only time Shamrock's real name was mentioned in-game.

After Talisman had flown through the trench and destroyed the back-up cooling unit, the gun's barrel opened up. At the very back of the barrel was the core, which could only be destroyed by flying into the barrel of the gun. Ghost Eye, knowing he couldn't order anyone to do that, solemnly asked "Talisman... We can trust you with this, right?" After Talisman successfully destroys the core and flies out of the back of the gun, Ghost Eye says to him, "Look Talisman, the sun's coming up, even through the darkest nights morning always comes. Those we've lost gave their lives to bring the morning light, living this day to the fullest is the highest tribute we can offer to their memory. Now come on let's get back home!" as they leave the area. This is Ghost Eye's last appearance in the game. His status after the war is currently unknown but is presumed to still be on active duty.

Trivia

  • The English Voice actor D.C Douglas voiced Dominic Zubov from Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War.
  • The Chandelier mission was one of the few missions you could see the AWACS flying in. If you go high enough, (around 10 to 30 thousand feet) you can see a E-767 AWACS flying above the Chandelier coordinating attacks.
  • The WMD mission is another mission where you can see ghost eye, as the E-767 is white like him and not snake pit's color. You can see him if you fly high around the starting area of the mission and he will be turning in a large circle.
  • Like most AWACS in Ace Combat, Ghost Eye is very serious and to the book. However, at certain times, he does loosen up a little, such as jokingly saying he'll mark Avalanche as gunned down and missing in action, telling Sky Kid that it's way past his bedtime, exclaiming about Emmeria's pilots' ability to take Gracemaria back, and his clear display of his dismay over Garuda 2 going down.
  • Captain Yamasaki from The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces sounds like Ghost Eye.
