For the PlayStation version, see Air Combat (PS1).

Air Combat was an arcade game, the very first in the Ace Combat series of video games, developed by Namco in 1992. It simulated an F-16C Fighting Falcon exclusively. Since the game was released almost exclusively in Japan and the arcade cabinets are not known to exist for public play anymore, very few details exist on the game itself.

It is known that the game ran on the Namco System 21, which was the first arcade board specifically made for processing 3D polygons, something that can be witnessed in what few images exist of Air Combat. This system was succeeded by the Namco System 22, which was utilized for Air Combat 22, the direct sequel to Air Combat.

Trivia

  • The pilot ejects from the aircraft when it is destroyed unlike almost every other Ace Combat game, giving the player a non-violent ending.
