Bunker Buster is the thirteenth campaign mission of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

Briefing[]

The destruction of one of their Arsenal Birds has significantly reduced the scale of Erusea's air defense network. Osean forces have moved into the areas where we gained air superiority and freed over half of the Usean continent. However, Erusea is feeling the pressure and is reacting by attempting to activate the ballistic missile base in the suburbs of Sierraplata. For the past 72 hours, they've put their resources and people into action. And have already entered the final stages of a launch. The missile silo is deep underground. To destroy it, we'll need a bomber to drop a huge deep-penetration bomb in a precise place. Unfortunately, the airspace is thick with clouds at the moment, so it'll be difficult for a bomber to hit the target accurately. Normally, we'd have to wait for the weather to clear, but with the situation being what it is, we don't have that option. So, we will be the bomber's eyes and find the missile silo. You'll all be equipped with targeting pods instead of special weapons. We need you to fly at low altitude, visually identify which silo they're activating, then acquire it with your targeting pod. Once you press the firing switch, the bombers will drop their payload based on the location data provided by the targeting pod. You will need to keep the silo in the center of your sight until the bomb hits its target, or else it will miss entirely. It takes a high level of airmanship to properly guide these bombs to their targets while flying a plane. Naturally, we assume the enemy has positioned anti-air artillery and aircraft in the area of operations, so stay alert. Additionally, we suffered human and material losses in the last battle, so Cyclops Squadron will sit this one out. Trigger, it's up to you to make this work with just Strider Squadron.

Objectives[]

The player cannot select special weapons for their aircraft in this mission; a Targeting Pod (TGTP) is used instead.

The initial objective is to destroy five missile silos, but there are eight displayed as TGT on the map, and three of them are fake. The fake silos can be distinguished from the the real ones as they are painted flat on the ground as opposed to a proper silo structure. The player can also use weaponry - particularly their guns - in order to identify the real missile silos. A fake silo will be removed from the HUD and minimap when hit, while a real silo will display hit particles and will not be removed.

The player needs to use the Targeting Pod to guide the bomber's bombs to their targets. Take care not to fly too close to the target when painting the target, or else the bomb will hit and destroy the player's aircraft. If the bomb does not land a direct hit on a missile silo, the silo's lids will be destroyed, revealing the IRBM underneath. In that case the player can destroy the IRBM directly using missile or gun.

Mission Update[]

Once all five missile silos have been destroyed, the Eruseans will launch IRBMs from hidden locations. The player needs to destroy three IRBM before they reach critical altitude in order to complete the mission.

Alternate Mission Update[]

The player will fail the mission if they destroy at least one but not all of the missile silos before time runs out. However, if the player does not destroy any of the five missile silos, the mission will still progress with a mission update. When that happens, the player needs to destroy six IRBM before they reach critical altitude in order to complete the mission.

Debriefing[]

We have successfully prevented an enemy ballistic missile attack. Strider Squadron, you did very well without your unit commander. We are now preparing for the final stage of our long-range operation: seizing the capital.

S Rank[]

Earning an S Rank on this mission requires earning a combined score and time bonus of 38,040 points or more.

The maximum time bonus available is 19,240 for completing the mission in a total of 7 minutes or less. This includes time spent retrying from the checkpoint. If the player can complete the mission in that amount of time, they only need 18,800 points from destroying targets in the mission itself to earn the S Rank. Destroying each real silo grants 2,200 points, while each IRBM after the mission update is worth 1,000 points. As these only amount to 14,000 points, those aiming for an S Rank are required to accumulate at least 4,800 more points. Players are recommended to destroy all enemy Typhoons and Harriers quickly before targeting the last silo, which should grant an extra 3,880 points. Long Caster will notify the player once the last fighter is destroyed. Shooting down COMET before engaging the IRBMs after the mission update is also advised.

If the player goes past the 7 minutes threshold, the time bonus decreases by 40 points every second, so the player must compensate by destroying more targets to hit the 38,040 point threshold.

Trivia[]

  • The briefing for this mission incorrectly lists the lineup for Cyclops Squadron as Wiseman, Jaeger, Fencer, and Húxiān, while Strider Squadron is supposedly made up of Trigger, Count, Skald, and Lanza. This is an error, as Jaeger is Strider 3 in this mission, while Skald is absent.

Footnotes[]

  1. The player must have completed this mission at least once, and must be playing on Normal difficulty or higher. Destroy the MISSILE SILOs in a short amount of time. COMET spawns flying away towards the west in the Mission Update.
