Emancipation is the 15th campaign mission of Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies. The player must divide attention between ground units, anti-aircraft artillery, and hostile aircraft.

Briefing[]

San Salvacion was a neutral city at the start of the war until the Erusians [sic] occupied it. We will now liberate this city. The heaviest resistance will come from the tank battalion near Route 7 in Old Towne, and the anti-tank helicopters near the New City govt. complex. In addition, you must defend our allies from any air strikes [sic] that may originate from the airport behind you. The Resistance fighters will end the blackout over the city. Suppress all enemy resistance and help liberate the city.

Objectives[]

Initial[]

In the first part of the mission, the player is tasked with attacking the enemy scattered in three positions: New City to the west, Old Towne to the east, and San Profetta Airport to the north. The mission's score requirement depends on the player's selected difficulty:

  • Easy or lower: 1,600
  • Normal or higher: 2,000

The player must surpass the point threshold within ten minutes to advance the mission.

Destroying all the targets in at least two sectors will garner enough points to complete this objective. The targets found in New City and Old Towne mainly consist of tank units, helicopters and AA weaponry, while a large number of high-value transport planes can be found at the airport. In addition, a few high-value artillery launchers can be found to the southwest of New City and to the northeast of Old Towne.

Yellow Squadron also appears over the city. Their aircraft can be shot down, although ignoring them will not affect the course of the mission. Shooting down four of the five Yellows will cause the surviving Yellow to become invincible and retreat from the area.

Mission Update[]

If the player has accumulated the minimal score requirement by the time the clock runs out, AWACS SkyEye will order the player to intercept and shoot down six Tu-160 Blackjack bombers.

S Rank[]

An S rank is achieved on this mission by scoring 4,160 points on Normal difficulty or above (3,460 points on Easy difficulty or below).[1][2] This is easily obtainable due to the large number of high-value targets within the airspace, which includes the six Tu-160s (160 points each) for a total of 960 points; the airport's seven C-17s (100 points each) for another 700 points; as well as several Yellow Squadron fighters (150 points each) and the enemy ace (240 points). Destroying these aircraft will earn the player 2,050 points, meaning the player must try to exceed the C rank by as many points as possible within the first 10-minute time limit.

Debriefing[]

The city has been liberated. The victory was not only a strategic one, but a symbolic one as well. Though it is still dark outside, cheering can be heard throughout the city.

Trivia[]

  • If the player returns to base when flying a land-based aircraft, they can see an F-15E taxiing. However, it will park on the ramp before taxiing again and never takes-off.

Footnotes[]

  1. Destroying four Yellows will cause the last one to retreat from the combat area.
  2. The player must have completed the campaign, and must be playing on Normal difficulty or higher. Olmstead is located in the center of the map.
