Emmeria, officially the Republic of Emmeria (エメリア共和国 Emeria kyōwakoku),[1] is the largest country on the continent of Anea. It is neighboured to the east by the Federal Republic of Estovakia and to the northwest by the Kingdom of Nordennavic.[2]
Emmeria is a relatively large nation that is home to a thriving population. Citizens of the capital city Gracemeria, enjoy propeserous, peaceful everyday lives.[1]
A key factor in Emmeria's economic prosperity was its many industries. Large scale oil pipelines in the Kijera Oil Fields, prosperous textile manufacturing in Ortara, and large industrial zones in San Loma. Many ports also dotted the coastline of the nation, indicating that trade was very prominent.[1]
As a result of its economic prowess, Emmeria was able to send aid to Estovakia following the impact of the Ulysses 1994XF04 asteroid,[3] which devastated the latter's economy and infrastructure.[4]
Emmeria is the player character's homeland and the setting for the majority of the missions in Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.[2]
Culture
Emmerian culture is reminiscent of those found in Europe. It features historical structures such as Gracemeria Castle which itself is very similar to those found in many European countries.[5]
Various names of locations are European sounding: Gracemeria, Sipli, Silvat, and Emmeria sound Eastern European, while Vitoze, Campagna, San Loma, Marcello, and Bartolomeo sound Italian. There are also miscellaneous names such as Ragno and Grageo. The people of Emmeria are mainly Caucasian and speak with American and occasionally British accents.[6]
If the Osean Federation is based on the United States, then the Republic of Emmeria appears to be a combination of the United Kingdom (Great Britain), France, and Canada.
History
Medieval times

The Republic of Emmeria was preceded by a kingdom in medieval times. In the 15th century, the region that would become Gracemeria was home to extremely fertile soil, and due to this, became the focus of infighting among vassals seeking control of the land. The conflict caused the collapse of order, and led to a series of foreign invasions.[7]
King Aurelius II, the founder of modern Emmeria, rose to power in the middle of the turmoil, vying to bring an end to the invasions. He succeeded in convincing the vassals to stop fighting, bringing peace to the land and permanently halting the foreigners' attacks. Sometime afterwards, the kingdom of Emmeria declared itself a republic, with Aurelius at the helm. The capital of the new republic was moved to Gracemeria.[7]
Modern times
Throughout the centuries, the Republic of Emmeria would become one of the leading nations on Anea. In 1999, it became one of the countries affected by the Ulysses 1994XF04 planetfall.[4]

Due to belated news regarding the asteroid's increased impact radius, Emmeria opted to taking a more defensive strategy in protecting itself against Ulysses. Preparations for the planetfall were carried out across the nation, mobilizing numerous aircraft to transport refugees to underground shelters being built in Gracemeria. On July 3, 1999, the asteroid entered the Earth's atmosphere and shattered into thousands of fragments that impacted the northern hemisphere.[7]
The impacts saw the collapse of Emmeria's trade routes and economy, along with the loss of cities and ports in its western areas. Despite this, the country was able to recover relatively quickly.[7]
Emmerian-Estovakian Reconstruction Effort
Following the Ulysses 1994XF04 planetfall, Emmeria began the Emmerian-Estovakian Reconstruction Effort, to aid Estovakia recover from the impact. In 2004, the Republic of Anea Initiative was founded, this movement would aim to merge all of the Anean countries into single nation. The Preparatory Agency for the Republic of Anea would be founded to carry out the initiative.[3]
Estovakian Civil War

Plans for the Republic of Anea were halted in 2007 when the Estovakian Civil War broke out. Emmeria, still wishing to help Estovakia recover, contacted the Lyes United Front: one of the factions vying for control of the country. They came to an agreement and Emmeria began sending aid to the LUF, believing it would help end the civil war. However, the LUF was using Emmerian aid to fuel its war machine, and soon after, Emmeria stopped its aid program. As the civil war came to a close in 2013 with an Eastern Faction victory, A military regime led by The Generals established a new government within Estovakia.
Under this new government, many Estovakians would come to resent Emmeria as they funded the LUF and were partially responsible for the civil war. By 2015, the Republic of Anea was dissolved and the Anean nations returned to being separate.[8]
This growing resentment would greatly aid The Generals in convincing the citizens of Estovakia to go to war with Emmeria.
Emmeria-Estovakia War

On August 30, 2015, Estovakia declared open war on Emmeria and launched a full scale invasion of the capital city, Gracemeria. Shortly after, Estovakian aircraft entered Gracemeria airspace, the Republic of Emmeria Air Force dispatched all available squadrons to defend the capital. Initially, Emmerian forces almost succeeded in driving out the invaders but were soon afterwards forced to retreat following the arrival of the Strigon Team and Nimbus missiles which wiped out a majority of Emmerian aircraft.[8]
Emmerian refugees
Four operations were carried out in an effort to retake Gracemeria, codenamed King and Balloon, these would ultimately fail due to an umbrella defense network comprised of the Strigon Team, P-1112 Aigaion and the Estovakian South Sea Fleet.[9]
On September, 2015, Estovakians reached the city of San Loma and began their attack operations. Emmeria ultimately lost the Battle of San Loma due to further Nimbus missile strikes from the Aigaion.[10]
By October, 2015 many Emmerians were displaced and sought refuge in many facilities near the border with Nordennavic.[4]
The Counter-Offensive

From a city named Vitoze, the Republic of Emmeria Air Force (REAF) repelled multiple Estovakian bomber raids and launched an effort to remove all Estovakian troops from Khesed Island.[11] The main units of the Emmerian Ground offense were the Emmerian Army’s 3rd Corps, 1st Brigade, 1st Tank Battalion “Warlock” and the 4th Armoured Battalion “Quox”, while the main air units consisted of the 28th TFS “Garuda”, the 15th TFS, and VFA-2. This combined force, along with other small Emmerian units, made up 20% of operational forces at that time.[12] These forces managed to secure Sipli Field and pushed to recapture Mount Marcello by taking over Bartolomeo Fortress, the final Estovakian position on Khesed Island. With support from the Emmerian Air Force Advanced Warning and Control Wing, 303rd Airborne Air Control Squadron, 4th Flight, in the form of an E-767 callsign “Ghost Eye”; the Emmerian forces attacked Bartolomeo Fortress. The battle ended with the successful recapturing of the fortress and Khesed Island.[13]
The Emmerian forces organized an amphibious assault on the Anean continent and established a foothold on the western coast after recapturing the city of Ortara and its air force base, the Kijera Oil Fields were also sanitized of Estovakian troops with the assistance of the Emmerian Navy Fleet.[2][14]
Later, the Emmerian 5th Tank Battalion “Steel Gunners”, 6th Tank Battalion “Dragon Busters”, 8th Tank Battalion “Gavial”, 9th Tank Battalion “Grizzly” and 6th Tank Battalion “Barracuda”, the 1st Signal Battalion “Sherpa” of the 2nd and 5th Corps and the Stingray Squadron of the Western Region Air Defense 3rd Air Division were completely cut off in Silvat by Estovakian forces.[15]
Emmerian Air Force flew into the area to support the cut off tank battalions, with support from the Northern Region Air Defense, 3rd Air Division’s Sky Kid Squadron and Yellow Jacket helicopter unit of the South Sea Fleet Command’s 3rd Fleet. The air force managed to loosen the siege on the encircled Emmerian ground forces and successfully annihilated all Estovakian forces attempting to retreat the area. With this new and sizable force, the Emmerian forces pushed through a large mountain range, near the Selumna Peaks, but was attacked by Estovakian air units. The P-1112 Aigaion also launched multiple Nimbus missiles into the area using drones to guide them, but, was unsuccessful in halting the Emmerian advance.[16] Estovakian forces in San Loma were attacked soon afterwards. San Loma was an important strategic location due to its naval facilities in Doypalm Bay and airport near Tarvo City.[17] With Hammerhead Squadron and the 2nd Fleet, the Emmerian forces took San Loma, despite yet another wave of Nimbus missile attacks and turned its attention to the P-1112 Aigaion.[18]
Pivotal Victories
Information was gathered and Emmerian Command formed a plan to destroy the heavy command cruiser, its escorts and the Nimbus missile threat. Seasoned Emmerian aerial squadrons attacked the Estovakian Aerial Fleet as they performed refuelling operations. However, the Strigon Team launched from the P-1112 Aigaion and engaged the Emmerians, along side the P-1113 Kottos and P-1114 Gyges aircraft. Already having lost five members in combat to the 28th TFS Garuda, the Strigon Team was forced to incorporate members from the Vampire Team, still based in Estovakia. The Estovakian Fleet was slowly dismantled and Strigon was also shot down as a whole. The destruction of the Aigaion was accredited to Garuda One of the Emmerian 28th TFS. It was at this point in time that the Garuda Team had gained immense popularity throughout the civilian population.
With such losses, the Estovakian forces began to form new defensive strategies to repel the oncoming Emmerian forces. Also their top ace, Ilya Pasternak was sent to Gracemeria to take command of the Strigon Team and combat the Garuda Team.
The Emmerian forces then took Ragno Fortress, the closest defensive position to the west of Gracemeria, and eventually launched a pivotal operation in the Moloch Desert. This operation saw the bulk of the Estovakian forces defending Gracemeria deployed onto the battlefield, meaning that an Emmerian victory would ensure the recapture of the capital city. The battle in the Moloch Desert was said to be some of the most gruelling, and would have resulted in an Emmerian victory, thanks to the presence of multiple prominent Emmerian forces, including the Garuda Team. However, Emmerian Command caught wind of a plan to destroy Gracemeria with a "Scorched Earth" policy. An immediate order of retreat was broadcasted to all Emmerian forces as Estovakian forces left the battlefield, but the Garuda Team continued to chase the fleeing Estovakian troops. The Strigon Team appeared on the battle field and solely engaged the Garuda Team, outnumbering them 10 to 2. The operation failed and Strigon Team was wiped out by Garuda One.[6][19]
The Garuda Team was suspended from all flight operations because of their violation of a direct order and the endangerment of all civilians in Gracemeria. This suspension did not last long as the Garuda Team was once again called forth to fly a special operation near Fort Norton aimed at destroying an Estovakian transport unit carrying the weapons of mass destruction which were to be deployed to destroy Gracemeria. Flying at high speeds through a nearby ravine, the Garuda Team managed to destroy the Estovakian transport unit, but was heavily outnumbered by overwhelming amounts of Estovakian aircraft. Garuda Team was saved by an air unit comprised of the 15th, 4th, 5th Tactical Fighter Squadrons, the 303rd ACS and VFA-2 of the Emmerian Air and Naval Forces.[20]
Free Gracemeria
With the success of this mission, Operation Free Gracemeria was put underway on March 31, 2016. All prominent units of the Emmerian Air, Naval and Ground Forces participated in the battle and were assigned to liberate different areas of Gracemeria. The Steel Gunners battalion was to retake Gracemeria Air Force Base, The Dragon Busters was to take the metropolitan area and the Capitol, Warlock battalion was to work with the 1st Helicopter Unit which would be dropped into combat by an LCAC unit and take the radio station, while the Emmerian 2nd Fleet engaged the Estovakian South Sea Fleet in King's Bay, and the 15th TFS with the VFA-2 engaged Estovakian AWACS/ECM and air superiority over the city. The Garuda Team supported each operation and ensured their success despite immense defensive fire power from the combined Estovakian Forces. The intense battle ended in an Emmerian victory, but, not after Ilya Pasternak of the Strigon Team engaged the Garuda Team and all elements of the Emmerian Military in Gracemeria. Despite being alone, Pasternak managed to tie up the Emmerian forces allowing his squadron to retreat from the battle. Ilya Pasternak was killed in action by the Garuda Team, but was to be remembered by the Estovakian Air Force as a born ace pilot with a spotless record, who valiantly died in combat for his comrades.[21]
Though Gracemeria was freed and citizens had retaken the streets, Emmerian Command continued air patrols over the city. As celebrations continued throughout the night after the liberation, an Estovakian general by the name of Gustav Dvornik, Commander of Estovakian Forces in Emmeria, as the Central District Precinct Commander and Expeditionary Forces General, escaped the Emmerian attack in Gracemeria and ordered that the “Chandelier” be put into operation and fire at Gracemeria. The Chandelier, a weapon designed to intercept the Ulysses asteroid, fired waves of cruise missiles at Gracemeria hoping to destroy the city. The Emmerian Air Force successfully repelled these missiles and Estovakian stealth aircraft. AWACS Ghost Eye managed to trace the flight trajectory of these cruise missiles to the Chandelier, located near Sonne Island in the North Sea off of the Estovakian north coast.[22]
All available air units were scrambled to destroy the Chandelier, but were met with stiff resistance from remnants of the Estovakian Navy, Air Force and the survivors of the Strigon Team. With information gathered from a joint civilian-Estovakian source, the Emmerian forces targeted the Chandelier’s cooling units in hopes of forcing the large Railgun to overheat, but a secondary cooling unit was discovered directly under the main gun. Garuda Two flew into the Chandelier’s service gutter and gathered information on defenses, but was heavily damaged. Garuda Two was eventually unable to keep his aircraft airborne and went down in the North Sea. Garuda One then flew into the same service gutter and destroyed the secondary cooling unit, soon after Gustav Dvornik attempted to flee the battle but was shot down by Garuda One before exiting the combat zone, while the battle seemed over destroying the weapon completely was of the up most importance, the exposed launcher mechanism was attacked. Garuda One flew into the barrel of the Chandelier and successfully destroyed the core. With the final battle won, the Chandelier attack unit heads home while Ghost Eye states "Those we've lost, gave their lives bring the morning light, living this day to the fullest, is the highest honor we can offer to their memory."[23]
The Emmeria-Estovakia War ended with Emmeria as the victor. "The Generals" were overthrown and a peace treaty was signed. Garuda Two survived the crash and became bound in a wheelchair temporarily. No information is known about Talisman after the war.
Geography
The Republic of Emmeria is the central nation on the Anean continent. The other two nations flank both sides of Emmeria with these being the Federal Republic of Estovakia to the east, and the Kingdom of Nordennavic to the northwest.
The country seems to have coastal, rolling plains near the Fuscum Sea and the North Sea. As we travel inland, the geography changes to a more mountainous landscape. In this region there are many small to large river valleys. Some of these valleys also point to some glaciations that happened in the Anean geological past. Also, there are at least two deserts, the Moloch and Jamel Deserts. Another geological formation is Khesed Island. It is the largest island within Emmerian territory. The island might have been created by a series of volcanic eruptions.
