Estovakia, officially the Federal Republic of Estovakia,[a] is a country located in eastern Anea. It shares borders with the Republic of Emmeria to the west. The Fuscum Sea separates Estovakia from the Union of Yuktobanian Republics, located just south of Anea.[2]

Estovakia was a nation engulfed in economic strife following the Ulysses Impact Event. The event caused significant damage to its economy and infrastructure, sparked the Estovakian Civil War,[3] and ultimately dissolved any future plans for the Republic of Anea Initiative (an initiative that aimed to unite all the Anean countries into a single nation).[4]

It was governed by a military regime following the civil war in 2013, and this government ruled until mid-2016, when it was overthrown by a coup d'état due to civilian displeasure with the ongoing Emmeria-Estovakia War. The newly established government would shortly afterward restore peaceful relations with Emmeria.[5]

Estovakia's military is relatively large and well-equipped, utilizing a multitude of advanced technologies and war machines such as the P-1112 Aigaion and CFA-44 Nosferatu. During the Emmeria-Estovakia War, the force vastly outnumbered the Emmerian military.

Estovakia was the antagonist country in Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.[6]

History

Pre-Ulysses (—1998)

In 1970, Estovakia established relations with Belka and Yuktobania, who became the main suppliers of weapons for its armed forces.

In the 1990s, the domestic economy achieved a high level of activity. A major refinery in the northeast of the country owned by the Oil Resource Development Corporation was abandoned under unknown circumstances in 1990, and remained abandoned for the rest of the decade.[7]

Ulysses (1998—1999)

In 1998, the Federation of Central Usea (FCU) announced that the Ulysses 1994XF04 asteroid would have a wider impact radius than previously expected, bringing the Anean continent into the range of impact.[8] On account of the lack of asteroid defense weapons such as Stonehenge in Usea, Estovakia began to develop its own meteor interception system. Despite making steady progress, the belated announcement resulted in the Chandelier not being completed in time, leaving the nation defenseless.[9]

On July 4, 1999, many asteroid fragments fell upon the country. The resulting damage devastated the nation and its economy, making it one of the worst affected by the disaster.[3] The capital of the country also lost its status following the impact.[4]

Sometime after the impacts, members of the Emmerian Ministry of Science and Technology started showing concern in regards to the further development of the Chandelier. Its potential threat as a weapon of war and lack of purpose following the impacts resulted in many nations uniting to prohibit any further development of the meteor interception system.[9]

Ulysses aftermath (1999—)

In 2000, neighboring Emmeria launched the Emmerian-Estovakian Reconstruction Effort, a humanitarian aid campaign with NGO groups to assist in Estovakia's reconstruction efforts. The ensuing lack of government control due to the impacts resulted in armed factions taking control of various regions across the country.

On March 20, 2002, Osea, Emmeria and various other nations joined in imposing economic sanctions on Estovakia, citing internal corruption.[10]

In June 2005, the acting Estovakian government commissioned Albastru-Electrice and multiple other cutting-edge weapons manufacturing firms within the country to begin developing the CFA-44 Nosferatu.[11]

In 2007, one of the factions called the Lyes United Front (LUF) seized Estovakia's former capital and became its de facto government.[4]

Estovakian Civil War (2007—2013)

In 2007, the city of Gledina was resisting Lyes United Front rule. In response, the LUF cut off aid supplies, keeping them from reaching the city. In the ensuing humanitarian crisis, 200,000 civilians lost their lives. Seeing this atrocity, the Eastern Faction declared war on the LUF. Many other factions including the Island Coalition, Independent Tariff Federation, and Northern Highlands Faction, soon after declared war on one another.[4]

24 News Report

24's "TRAGEDY CONTINUES" news report

Shortly after the outbreak of war, the Emmerian news company, 24, reported on the ongoing conflict.[3] Emmeria, still wanting to help Estovakia recover, began sending aid to the Lyes United Front as they controlled the western region of the country.[4]

At an unspecified point during the war, the Lyes United Front assimilated the Independent Tariff Federation, gaining access to its territory and military strength.[12][13]

Sometime during the war, the Lyes United Front sent in Rousalka Team to capture of an Island Coalition base. An Island Coalition pilot named Ozren Milos took part in defending the base, ultimately repelling the LUF attack. The base was a key factor in the eventual Eastern Faction victory.[14]

In 2010, Emmeria halted its aid program, as it had been discovered that the LUF was utilizing the resources to further its war machine instead of aiding Estovakia's recovery. This greatly affected the LUF's capability as a military force and slowed their advance.[4]

Later on, the Eastern Faction carried out a city-wide bombing of a Lyes United Front controlled city in order to destroy a tank battalion that was stationed there. The city was left in shambles.[15]

The Eastern Faction later assimilated the Northern Highlands, through an act facilitated by the friendship between General Gustav Dvornik and Isaac Arensky.[4]

The war eventually reached a stalemate between the two remaining factions. With classified Belkan heavy command cruiser research provided by Belkan War veteran, Lorenz Riedel, Dvornik was able to bring his Aerial Fleet Initiative to fruition. The project birthed the P-1112 Aigaion and her escort ships, the P-1113 Kottos and P-1114 Gyges aerial warships.[16]

In the final decisive battle of the civil war,[17] the might of the Eastern Faction Aerial Fleet ultimately overpowered the Lyes United Front, resulting in a LUF defeat.[7]

Following the civil war's end, various members of the Eastern Faction and their allies formed a new government helmed by The Generals, a military junta of high-ranking army officers that included Dvornik himself as Supreme Commander of the Estovakian armed forces.

Still under development, the CFA-44 Nosferatu program strained the Estovakian economy, which was still struggling due to the Ulysses Impact Event. As a result, the project faced criticism from Estovakian mass media corporations. Under Eastern Faction rule, free speech was practically non-existent, and many reporters went missing during this period.[11]

The postwar era was marked by separatist movements and guerrilla attacks from LUF remnants against the new government, one of which claimed the life of Foreign Minister Isaac Arensky in late 2013. This triggered fears of tension between the country's various armed groups.

In February 2014, Emmerian soldiers on humanitarian missions were targeted by former LUF members, leading to the death of 28 soldiers and aid workers in the region of Vistoc. At a conference following the incident, tensions between Emmeria and Estovakia increased.[4]

As of 2014, Estovakia's population stood at 63.5 million.[18]

Emmeria-Estovakia War (2015—2016)

The aftermath of the civil war saw the rise of negative sentiments towards Emmeria; who many saw as an instigator of the conflict by continuing to provide aid support to the Lyes United Front. The situation led The Generals to declare war on Emmeria in August 2015, triggering the Emmeria-Estovakia War. The overwhelming firepower of the Aigaion was used to conquer the cities of Gracemeria[19] and San Loma,[20] forcing the majority of the Emmerian military to flee to the western Khesed Island,[3] gaining control of mainland Anea in that year.[4]

Despite their overwhelming and superior firepower, the Estovakian military was not able to halt the Emmerian counterattack. Throughout early 2016, the Emmerians would see continuous victories over the Estovakian military, culminating in the destruction of the Aerial Fleet[21] and liberation of Gracemeria.[22]

On April 1, 2016, following a retaliatory strike on Gracemeria, the Republic of Emmeria Air Force destroyed the Chandelier near Sonne Island in the last known battle of the war.[9] Displeasure with the ongoing war led to The Generals being overthrown, and a new provisional government taking control of the country.[5]

In May 2016, the new government would sign a cease-fire agreement with the Emmerian Joint Chiefs of Staff, officially ending the Emmeria-Estovakia War and re-establishing peaceful relations between the two nations.[5]

Geography

Sonne Island Birds Eye

Half of Estovakia's territory is comprised of expansive mountain ranges.[7] Estovakia also controls a number of islands to the north and east of the mainland, most notably, Sonne Island. Due to their proximity to the pole, the climate is almost always cold.

The majority of Estovakia is surrounded by water, bordered by the Fuscum Sea to the south, the Arctic Ocean to the north, and the Ceres Ocean to the east.

Military

Estovakia supports a large, well-equipped military force despite its lack of economic prowess. Estovakia's armed forces are comprised of the Estovakian Navy, the Estovakian Army and the Estovakian Air Force.

Economy

In the 1990s, Estovakia's domestic economy was thriving, however, the Ulysses 1994XF04 planetfall left the nation in a state of disrepair. It was estimated that it would take decades for the country to reach the level of economic activity it once had.[4]

Trivia

  • Estovakia shares numerous similarities with Eastern Bloc countries.
    • There are many distinguishing cultural similarities, such as predominant Russian and Romanian names, accents, and references.

    • The name Strigon is a reference to the Strigoi, or undead vampires of Romanian Mythology.
    • The Emmerian-given nickname for Estovakians, "Stovies", is an anagram for "Soviets".
  • Estovakian officers appear to wear uniforms similar to those worn by North Korean officers.
  • Even though Estovakia is loosely based on the USSR, Warsaw Pact, Yugoslavia, and North Korea, most of the aircraft it uses (except for the Su-33 Flanker-D utilized by Strigon Team) are of NATO origin (US, UK, France, etc.)
