The ATD-0 was a fictional fighter variant of the real-life Mitsubishi X-2 Shinshin, a Japanese experimental aircraft designed to test stealth technology. The X-2 was formerly known as the ATD-X, leading to the ATD-0's name. The ATD-0 maintained the real-life aircraft's stealth and maneuverability; it also featured weapon systems and additional sensors and avionics.
The ATD-0 was introduced in Ace Combat Infinity as part of a collaboration with the designer of the real-life aircraft, the Japanese Ministry of Defense's Technical Research and Development Institute.[1] Masato Kanno believed that fans of the "ATD" would be intrigued by its appearance in Infinity.[2] Including the aircraft in the Ace Combat franchise was a long-cherished wish of the development team, only made possible by the fans' support,[3] despite the "contradictory idea" of adding a non-fighter aircraft into a fighter aircraft game;[1] to the latter point, the developers made various modifications to the aircraft's design to add it to Infinity.[4]
History[]
In the Infinity universe, Wernher and Noah Enterprises acquired the blueprints for the original aircraft, performed the modifications necessary for combat, and added it to their Advanced Automated Aviation plants for their mercenary pilots to purchase on demand.
Game Analysis[]
Ace Combat Infinity[]
- "Based on the design of a demonstrator aircraft developed by the Japanese Ministry of Defense, this aircraft has been improved and adjusted for combat purposes. Despite its small size, it features advanced mobility and stealth capabilities that rival those of 5th-generation fighter aircraft. The aircraft features technology such as a sensor, avionics and a weapon system allowing it to obtain data from the battlefield. This data is crucial for the development of 'fighter aircraft of the future.'"
