"Lorenz Riedel is one of several Belkan defectors to have helped create the Aigaion."
Emmerian military records[1]

Lorenz Riedel was a former Belkan Air Force pilot and veteran of the Belkan War. He later joined the Estovakian Air Force and became the flight lead of the 5th Tactical Fighter Squadron in the Estovakian Central Precinct Air Force's 60th Aviation Regiment.

Riedel is one of the named aces found in Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War and Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. He appears in Mission 16 (ACE ZERO) if played on Soldier style and Mission 9 (ACE 6) if played on Expert difficulty or higher. His livery for the aircraft becomes available for purchase after shooting him down.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Riedel was born in Belka in 1967, and later joined the Belkan Air Force, where he was assigned to Gault Squadron as Gault 7. He flew with the unit until their sudden disappearance in the early months of the Belkan War, and later resurfaced when the leader of the squadron, Anton Kupchenko, led the A World With No Boundaries uprising in December 1995.[2]

Belkan War[]

On December 31, he and his unit engaged the Galm Team at Area B7R to prevent them from arriving to Avalon Dam, where the launch of the V2 missile would take place. Riedel escaped from his Su-47 and survived the engagement, only to disappear shortly thereafter. Osean special forces investigated reports of sightings at Oured, but he was never found, and was filed as "Missing in Action".[2]

Estovakian Civil War[]

At some point after the Belkan War, Lorenz left the Osean continent and traveled to Estovakia as one of the many "war exiles" expelled from his country. In 2007, he fought in the Estovakian Civil War as part of the Eastern Faction, and supplied Gustav Dvornik with classified Belkan research on heavy command cruiser technology, allowing them to build the P-1112 Aigaion and her escort ships, the former of which would allow them to win the war.[1]

Feniks over the Fuscum Sea

When the Emmeria-Estovakia War broke out, he was transferred to the Aigaion itself with the Strigon Team. On February 20, 2016, he launched with the squadron to defend the Aerial Fleet from an Emmerian Air Force attack but was shot down by Talisman, and his fate remains ambiguous.[3]

Trivia[]

  • Lorenz's callsign during the Emmeria-Estovakia War is "Feniks", which is an alternative spelling for "Phoenix", which is a mythical bird engulfed in flames which burns for around 500 years before burning to ash, from whence phoenix eggs come from; this is used in popular culture as a symbol of resurrection. Feniks is a fitting callsign, for it indicates Riedel's resurgence in the battlefield.
  • Lorenz is one the few cross-game characters in the Ace Combat series and one of the 3 characters to appear as a named enemy ace in more than one game along with Ashley Bernitz and Michael Heimeroth.
  • The color of Lorenz's Flanker-D is the tri-color livery used by the Su-27PD, a modified Flanker equipped with various hardware upgrades used by the Gromov Flight Research Institute. The Gromov livery has been a recurring paint scheme in various games, appearing as an enemy color for the Su-37 Terminator in Ace Combat 2, the "special" color for the Su-35 Super Flanker in Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies and Color 6 for the Su-27 Flanker in Ace Combat: Joint Assault.
