Overview

The Gepard is an autonomous, all-weather capable, self-propelled anti-aircraft gun. The modernization scheme for the Gepard includes: integration of C3 capabilities; improvement in target engagement with extended combat range, shorter reaction time and better hit and kill probability; and improved self-protection. The main thrust of the improvement program was the installation of new fire control systems, command and control management, muzzle velocity measurement device and the certification for new Frangible Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot ammunition (FAPDS) rounds.

The Gepard is equipped with independent search and tracking radars, the search radar installed at the front rear of the turret, and the tracking radar on the rear front of the turret. The radars provide 360° scanning with simultaneous target tracking, clutter suppression, search on the move capability and mono-pulse tracking mode.

The firing system utilizes a digital fire control computer. The miniaturized digital computer uses 32 bit Motorola 68020 microprocessors, single board computers with dedicated arithmetic coprocessors and a command, control and communications (C3) interface. All data handled by the fire control system is related to the fixed vehicle coordinate system.

Ace Combat Info

Gepards are fielded by Erusea in the Usean Continental War, being commonly seen in missions 09, 16, and 17 of Ace Combat 04. Also fielded by the forces of Republic of Ustio during the Belkan War, mainly for defense purposes, as well as Leasath forces during the Aurelian War, being a signature weapon for the elite anti-air special forces unit called the Skylla Unit. Their modified Gepards seem to have advanced targeting capabilities and armor piercing bullets. (Much more lethal on Hard and Ace modes)
