Gnome Ravine features steep mountain peaks, small farms and villages, and a river. Its relatively lower altitude makes the ravine a suitable pass for low-flying aircraft to cross the Lambert Mountains' high peaks. In addition, foggy atmospheric conditions can also limit visibility on cloudy days.
During the Continental War, Gnome Ravine was "mined" with airship-mounted noise jammers by Erusean forces. These jammers prevented the use of radar and made traversing the foggy, mountainous ravine by air quite hazardous.
