The 229th Tactical Fighter Squadron or Grabacr Squadron was the former Belkan Air Force unit of the Osean Air Defense Force.

An aggressor squadron formed shortly after the Belkan War, it was comprised of some of the main instigators of the 2010 Circum-Pacific War, operating as henchmen of the secret organization called the Gray Men.

History

Formation

The Grabacr Squadron was formed in the aftermath of the Belkan War, joining the Osean Air Force as an aggressor squadron as part of a plan to restore diplomatic relations, a situation that also occurred with the Ofnir Squadron in Yuktobania. The name "Grabacr" stems from the callsign used by Bernitz in Belka. Their activities in Osea are unknown, but persisted for several years before coming to a halt.

Circum-Pacific War

The unit later saw action as instigators of the Circum-Pacific War between Osea and Yuktobania in late 2010. Operating under the alias of the "8492nd Squadron", they were involved in the kidnapping of the Osean President Vincent Harling at his C-5 Galaxy transport plane in Akerson Hill on October of that same year, and killed several Yuktobanian civilians at the engineering college in Dresdene shortly after the invasion of the country by Osean forces.[1]

As the war later came to a stalemate, they were involved in a plot to eliminate Wardog Squadron before the invasion of Cinigrad, leading them to a ambush with several Belkan fighters over the Vladimir Mountains. The attack failed, and the squadron was falsely accused of being enemy spies at Sand Island Air Force Base by Colonel Orson Perrault and his adjutant, Major Allen C. Hamilton. The members of that squadron fled from Grabacr to the Solo Islands before being shot down by Marcus Snow and being confirmed as Killed in Action by the rescue team Sea Goblin.

Grabacr continued their operations and failed during their confront with the Wardog Squadron (operating illegally from the 3rd Osean Naval Fleet's flagship as the Razgriz Squadron) when they were trying to rescue the Prime Minister of Yuktobania. All Grabacr fighters were shot down, but the pilots were ejected safely.

Destruction

The aforementioned Razgriz Squadron managed to rescue the pro-peace leaders of Osea and Yuktobania, bringing an end to hostilities, so on December 31 of 2010, the Grabacr, alongside the Ofnir Squadron (the Yuktobanian Air Force's Belkan aggressor squadron) and their leader Michael Heimeroth, took off on a suicide mission to protect the Strategic Orbital Linear Gun as it fell into the Earth and over Oured. However, both Grabacr and Ofnir were shot down by the Razgriz. The Razgriz continued their operation to destroy the SOLG before it could hit Oured. The events of this operation resulted in the destruction and disbanding of the Grabacr squadron.[1]

Trivia

  • In Ace Combat Infinity, the emblem, Shield 12, features the term '8492 Squadron', in reference to the alias used by the Grabacr during their time in the OADF.
  • Also, in Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, the Su-47 -GRABACR EMBLEM- is available as a variation of the Su-47 Berkut. The paint scheme has their emblem along with the Belkan Air Force emblem.
