The JAS-39C Gripen is a lightweight multirole combat aircraft currently in production, intended to replace the Saab J35 Draken and JA 37 Viggen. The Gripen is now fully operational with the Swedish Air Force with more than 115 units. In 1978 the Swedish Government decided that the Swedish Air Force needed a new multirole aircraft for the turn of the century. After an evaluation process, Parliament decided in June 1982 to go ahead with the Swedish project and the Defense Materiel Administration signed a contract for development of the JAS-39 "Gripen", and the final flight tests were completed in December of 1996.

The "Gripen" offers high agility, advanced target acquisition systems - including a powerful multi-role radar, modern weapons, low radar signatures and powerful Electronic counter-measures systems. The JAS-39 Gripen system is designed to counter all current and future threats. The aircraft has the ability to take off from rough landing strips and even roads. The aircraft has been developed for the Swedish Air Force by the Industry Group JAS (SAAB, Ericsson, Volvo Aero and FFV Aerotech) in close co-operation with the Swedish Air Force.

Game Analysis

Ace Combat Infinity

Description

"A multirole light fighter that is used by a total of five countries, including the Swedish Air Force. It is known for its small size, short takeoff capabilities and capacity to carry a variety of weapons. This allows it to launch from a runway and a hangar basically cut out of the mountains, with its light maneuverability allowing it to complete a variety of missions. As an aircraft capable of switching roles during flight, it also has the name "JAS-39C", taking abbreviations from Jakt (air-to-air), Attack (air-to-ground), and Spaning (reconnaissance)."
