The character is first introduced in the prologue of Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, which shows a NATO raid on an SRN settlement. The Gunner provides suppressing fire against the rebels, shooting down runners and Technicals alike. After protecting a downed Nomad 62 and destroying an enemy weapons depot, the helicopter prepares to depart, when a Trinity warhead detonates, catching 61 with the shockwave. As a result, the character is left with serious burns, and is soon brought back to the NATO base. On the mission "Lock and Load", you take the role of a different door gunner, protecting US Navy Seals while they raid SRN-controlled cargo ships.
- Between the two gunners, only "Guns" is given a name. It can only be assumed that the first gunner's name is "Hawk Gunner" based on the name of his Twitter account when Project ACES initially started releasing info on the game. The two gunners are also told apart by the insignia on the back of their helmets. "Hawk Gunner" has a hornet on the back of his helmet, while "Guns" has a spider.
- This is the first time a callsign is used to refer to two different men.
- His helmet somewhat resembles the one used by character Simon ”Ghost“ Riley from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
