This article is about an in-game mission. For the in-universe event, see Battle of Terminus Island.

Ice Bound is a mission in Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception. In order to be able to play it, the player must accomplish Rolling Thunder so the Gleipnir will fly to Santa Elva intact.

Briefing

Terminus Island is home to both vital Aurelian oilfields, and the Gleipnir's hangar. Intelligence has informed us that an Aurelian scientist is being held captive within this facility. It's highly likely that he has obtained invaluable information on the Gleipnir, and more importantly he is a fellow Aurelian who must be rescued. The allied submarine Naiad will be used in his rescue. In order to draw enemy's attention from the Naiad, the allied fleet will engage in a diversionary operation. Our duty will be to protect the fleet. The enemy is expected to launch anti-submarine aircraft. Although our main objective is to protect the diversionary fleet, we must also ensure the safety of the Naiad. If you confront any anti-submarine aircraft, take them out as soon as possible.

Plot

The Aurelian military, along with Gryphus Squadron, are assigned to rescue an Aurelian scientist who is held captive within Terminus Island while he has vital information on the Gleipnir. An allied fleet is deployed to distract Leasath forces from detecting the submarine that will initiate the rescue, Naiad. While the Naiad's commando unit infiltrates the facility to find the scientist, Gryphus One provides air protection for the Naiad.

On the Naiad's return trip, it hits an undersea mine, loses its diving control system and rudder in the process and surfaces. A huge iceburg is blocking the Naiad's path, so Gryphus One is assigned with destroying it before the Naiad collides with it. Simultaneously, a group of Leasath B-2 and F-117 stealth aircraft, including their escort fighters, take off from a nearby air base and try to attack the Naiad, but Gryphus One manages to stop them until the Naiad escapes to safety.

S-Rank

Achieving an S-Rank on this mission requires earning at least 10000 points. There are enough enemies in this mission to earn over 15000 points, so it should be easy to S-Rank this mission.

Debriefing

The mission was a success. The Naiad has returned to port safe and sound. Thanks to the recon data from the Naiad, we've started to make some sense of the Gleipnir's stealth system. It will take some time to fully analyze the data, but it looks like there might be a way to partially shut down the stealth system. This information may help us gain the upper hand in our battle against the Gleipnir.
