The Independent State Allied Forces, or ISAF, were a military coalition of nations from Usea that banded against Erusea in the Second Usean Continental War.

History

Continental War

The ISAF was created from a continental national economic alliance between various nations of the Usean continent, which included the FCU as a member. After Erusea's takeover of the Stonehenge Turret Network in the summer of 2003, the threat of a sanctioned armed response caused FCU president Robert Sinclair to announce the dissolution of the economic alliance in a press conference and the creation of a military coalition, the ISAF, after August of that year.

After the start of offensive operations from Stonehenge, the loss of aerial power forced armed forces of the ISAF to retreat to Los Canas in east Usea, from where they later fled to North Point, which became the base of their headquarters. The country became the source of missions to reunite with troops trapped in the mainland and weaken the Erusean army from September 2004, leading to major victories such as the sinking of the Aegir Fleet and the destruction of a major oil refinery.

Following the launch of a satellite from the Comona Islands, the ISAF began a counteroffensive towards the mainland, beginning with the amphibious landings of Operation Bunker Shot in January of 2005 and culminating with the destruction of Stonehenge thanks to the actions of ace pilot Mobius One. The fall of the complex led to a second campaign towards Erusea itself, leading to the fall of the capital of Farbanti on September and the crushing of a remnant at the anti-Ulysses base of Megalith.

Post-war period

The ISAF continued to exist after the conclusion of the war with Erusea, which contributed to the formation of an interim government post-war. In September of 2006, it employed Mobius One to crush the uprising of the Free Erusea resistance movement, from which it obtained autonomous flight systems from X-02 Wyverns seized by the group.

As a military coalition, the Independent State Allied Forces were originally formed by eleven core small Usean nations, but later expanded to a total of sixteen members, all of which were led by the FCU itself. The main symbol of the organization was an arrangement of triangles known as the "Three Arrowheads".

The purpose of the organization was to provide stability to the continent; each member had the right of collective self-defense, intervening with military actions in an armed attack targeting another ISAF country, as an assault on a member would be treated as an attack on the organization as a whole.

The military arm of the ISAF was formed by the individual armed forces of its member nations, being composed of ground forces, an Air Force and a Navy.

• The Independent State Allied Forces shares their acronym with the International Security Assistance Force, a NATO-led security mission in Afghanistan.
• In one of the opening cutscenes of Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies, the subtitles display States in the name, rather than State.
