Kudos! I had the same thought briefly in my head (to install the base in a submerged ocean crater) but wasn't certain about the 20 km distance to Selatapura.
But it makes perfect sense, why else would anybody build such a long and expensive bridge to supply the Lighthouse.
Just a friendly proposal: Shouldn't this information also be added in the "Proposal and construction" paragraph of the International Space Elevator article?
Just because I'm new here at Acepedia doesn't mean I just became an AC fan yesterday (fan since AC 4 with a peculiar interest in Strangereal geography) but currently feel I'm treated as such. The accusations I had to read to in the past 24 hours are just intolerable, I'm myself allergic to people that want to impose or manifest their personal beliefs and am solely interested in the settings of the 'creators' and discuss what I perceive to be inconsistencies or erroneous illustrations in the Fort Grays Island article. I've read plenty of rationalization attempts regarding various Strangereal topics which I felt to be encouraging only to get reactions I consider rather something along the lines like "shut up, take it or leave it".
Since you seem to have an interest in Strangereal geography yourself, I'd be grateful for assistance you could provide, on the Occasion I'd like to ask whether you are aware of a WIP that supplements the high-resolution AC 5 Strangereal world map with the upgrades from Aces At War: A History 2019, so we get an optimal high-res map covering the latest upgrades/changes/retcons.
Have a better one!
The map in Aces At War: A History 2019 isn't the exact same as the one released alongside the high resolution one for AC5. They have added Latitude and Longitude coordinates across the equator in AAW 2019, so it's not as simple as me just cropping Anea or Usea and sticking it onto the AC5 one. If you would like, I could send you a picture of what I mean on Discord or something.
Trust me, everyone's been waiting for a complete map for over a decade by now, especially me. I'm someone who's a huge fan of AC6, so I was extremely frustrated that Anea wasn't defined. For the longest time, even Sly was annoyed that the AC5 map had spelt "Axel Bay" as "Alex Bay". Even the AAW 2019 map has some errors. For example, in this image, both Gracemeria and Mante are labeled as the capital of Emmeria. Additionally, one of the Estovakian islands has its gray coloring out of place. Every Strangereal map ever provided has always had inconsistencies. We've just come to accept that at this point. Besides that, now that the AAW-2019 is map there and done, it's just a matter of time before they release it online. So just hang in there a little longer. :)
On Acepedia, there's a guideline somewhere which states "assume good faith", as in everyone just wants what's the best for everyone on here. We cannot make any assumptions based on inconsistencies and present them as canon. Otherwise, it may cause confusion. We also prefer to use in-game images over supplementary images if possible, so despite the map showing Fort Grays Island as a larger landmass, the game depicts it as a smaller one. It's the same thing for Tyler Island. Your point about Newman Crater is fair, however, we prefer in-game screenshots over map images when possible. If you want to replace the infobox image, then you will need to take an in-game shot of Fort Grays Island.
About you feeling as if you've been mistreated: I wouldn't think too much of it, I felt that way too at first. Although you may NOT be new to the Ace Combat series, you ARE new to this Wiki, so just keep that in mind. :P I had my fair share of arguments with Sly when I first started editing and I messed a few things up. Despite my mistakes, I became Acepedia's first Content Moderator. (One of my first edits was editing the Strangereal map since it didn't display every country. What a coincidence!) I know Sly can seen assertive and unjustly aggressive sometimes, but he just wants to get things done as efficiently as possible. He's actually a pretty chill guy to talk to as well. Let me know if you need anything. Also, I'd like to not have to type this much next time. Thanks ;)
Many thanks for taking the time to reply. I just uploaded a visualization of the issue which hopefully illustrates the subject better than words.
As you will notice TPTB deliberately shifted (!) the annotations towards the left in the latest Strangereal world map which looks to me like an attempt to obscure the "Fort" in "Fort Grays Airport" (makes sense to me as there is probably only one "Fort Grays" in that archipelago).
I will follow your advice and attempt to take a high altitude screenshot of Fort Grays Island myself next time I jump into my fighter.
Which brings me to one last question: Can we quote official annotations on geography from Aces At War: A History 2019 or does the official text from the book have to be rewritten?
Again, thanks for your help and advice, clear skies!
I have downloaded the image you uploaded so I could look at it before deleting it (since we don't allow fanart on Acepedia). Please don't upload any more fanart, thanks. Also, please feel free to contact me on Discord for easier communication.
To answer your question, we can quote official annotations on geography from Aces At War: A History 2019 as it is the latest official source. However, as previously stated, like every map, that map retains some inconsistencies. So we try to see if those locations match with in-game descriptions or locations shown in the Free Mission select screen to be sure.
I fail to see how a visualization of an obviously controversial topic is "fan art" but you decide. Do I correctly assume that if I were to download this picture along with my comment in the "Fort Grays Island" comment section that it will also be deleted?
Just for future reference: any edited image or image not from an official source is considered fanart. We only use fanart in very, very, extreme instances such as for visualising Ace Combat Infinity's aircraft tree throughout the various updates (since the game's offline now) or removing watermarks. See File:Anea Map Large.jpg or File:Official Garuda Team Emblem.png for examples of images edited to hide watermarks. You wouldn't have been able to notice those two were edited without me saying so, yeah?
And no, your comment on Fort Grays Island won't be deleted since there's no fanart there.
Nothing much, just tryna keep up with everything while waiting for AC7. Let's try to keep discussions on here to Wiki relevant topics. If you wanna talk about other stuff, feel free to add me on Discord. :)
I would highly recommend switching to the Classic Source Editor (which can done in Special:Preferences, under the "Editing" tab; it is listed as "Source editor"). This will eliminate the need to fix infoboxes manually along with other benefits over the newer editors.
I know this can get overlooked very easily, but you can add the Fileinfo template on the images you upload; it helps identifying sources. If there are in-game screenshots taken by yourself, you can state the source as "Self-uploaded screenshot".
I can take a more high quality image if you would like. I have an elgato capture card so I could go in game and take higher quality images of any assault records from the game. This one of Anea was an old one on my hard drive.
We would certainly appreciate a higher-quality image because that one looks messy with the pixels, especially near the bottom.
Also, please, in general, add sources to your uploads using the Fileinfo template as Qbicle explained above. You are uploading more and more images with no sources and we can't verify if all of them are real.
For those cases, you would put Self-uploaded screenshot or ''[[Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation]]'' for the source, and [[User:MyNamesFurii]] for the author, but you would also want to put where in the game you got that shot from in the description section.
Reason for that last one: I don't believe you at face value when you say, for example, that you got File:Gracemeria Skyline.png from the game, and I'd want to know where in the game we can find that so we can verify that.
Because Youtube compression of video files usually hampers with the quality and colours. Plus the screenshot I took was during a frame where the title was flashing on so the lighting mightve looked a little brighter. If you look at any of his videos, the colours look war more washed out than when actually viewing the game on screen. This washed out look may be due the fact he may have been recording with an HDPVR while I was recording with an Elgato and if you take a look at any HDPVR recording footage you can tell the difference in colour.
Since the remake of Cygnus squadron, we did some changes and the squads were limited to 4 people, since I wasn't able to know when you were going to come back, I put 4 of the original members on it. However, since I'm leaving the squadron, you can join the Cygnus guys with the old teammates :)
