Ace Combat 6 Proximity fuze

An enemy F-4E Phantom II hit by a missile detonated via proximity fuze

Proximity fuze is a gameplay feature introduced in Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.

In most Ace Combat games, a missile will not cause any damage to enemy units unless it lands a direct hit. In Ace Combat 6, missiles that perform a very near miss will detonate and inflict reduced damage to an enemy as a result of a proximity fuze.[1][2]

Ace Combat 6 remains the only Ace Combat game to have proximity fuze on standard missiles. In later games, the feature became the Short-Range Aerial Suppression Air-to-Air Missile special weapon.
