The Dassault Rafale M is a twin-jet naval combat aircraft capable of carrying out a wide range of short, medium, and long-range missions, including ground and sea attack, air defense and air superiority, reconnaissance, and high-accuracy strike or nuclear strike missions.

Overview

After France dropped out of the Eurofighter program in the late eighties, the French government authorized the construction of a new fighter for the French Air Force. The first flight of the Rafale A prototype (F-ZJRE) took place on the 4th July of 1986. First deliveries to the French navy took place in 1997. Although multiple nations have shown interest in buying Rafale fighters, with India ordering 126 of the F.3 variant. In real life, there are multiple types of the Rafale: The Rafale C (Chasseur, which translates into interceptor), the Rafale B (Biplace, double-seated for training flights) and the Rafale M (Marine, designed for carriers), which is encountered in the Ace Combat Series. The Rafale M is designed to be as light and affordable as possible. It is equipped with a thin, mid-mounted delta wing with a moving canard, and individual fixed, kidney-shaped intakes without shock cones. Integrated systems and engines were designed to provide the lowest operation and maintenance costs of all 21st century 4.5 generation fighter planes.
