The Kingdom of Sapin is a country from Strangereal located in the northeastern area of the Osean Continent.

Not much is known about the kingdom before the Belkan War and one thing that has been confirmed is the fact of it being neutral in the past.

It most strongly resembles the country of Spain in most every aspect.

Description

General Description

The Kingdom of Sapin is a neutral country that fought during the Belkan War against the Belkan Federation, being an active member of the Allied Forces coalitive forces.

It is based on Spain and it is possible that their official language is Spanish, having as a characteristic surnames from several Spanish-speaking countries and a noticeable Spanish accent.

Geography

Not much is known about the country's geography due the fact that there is only one moment in Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War in which the player flies over a piece of it.

It seems like it is a country of predominant plains and one that has a mediterranean climate, being located at the northeastern part of the Osean Continent, more precisely at the south of Ustio and to the east of Oured, having maritime exit to the Oured Bay.

The Futuro Canal is located at the northwest side of the country. It also has a Spanish name, being called "Futuro" the Spanish word for future.

History

The Federal Era (1987-1994)

Following the Belkan Federal Law Review of 1987 and the economic collapse that followed it, the former South-Eastern and North-Eastern territories, later known as Ustio and the FATO Nations, became the first two territories to break away from the Belkan Federation and after this the Belkan military began to pull out of the Eastern Nations.

In 1991 the Belkan Government sold its eastern territores to Ustio, Sapin and FATO in an attempt to save it's economy. Sapin gained ever more land with this.

However, a Joint Research Group discovered that near the borders between Ustio, Sapin, and also Belka, under tons of rocks and mountain chains, there is a vast surplus of natural resources. At this same time, a Belkan extreme-wing party takes control of Belka and publishes the lies the Osean Federation told the world, including plans to take over the Republic of Ustio and the Kingdom of Sapin.

Amidst the chaos, war was declared in 1995, starting a series of events that led to the Belkan invasions to their neighboring countries, triggering a massive conflict.

Belkan War (1995)

Starting and Belkan Invasions

Open war was declared by the Belkan Federation and its military began to pour across the borders of Ustio and also Sapin, being the more resource-heavy territories. Ustio, lacking the military strength to fight off the invaders, almost fell to Belka. However, its military expanded exponentially over the past decade, thus being more prepared for the Belkan invasion but still falling rapidly against their military power.

Though the Western Territories of Sapin were overrun by Belkan aggressors, the Four Horsemen along with the Sapin Royal Army managed to halt the Belkan advance early in the war and maintain the Belkans at bay, far from Gran Rugido.

Invasion of Belka and Liberation of Ustio

Later in the war, after Ustio began to be liberated with a new mercenary force and the help of the Osean Defense Forces, the Sapin Military began to help spearhead the counter-offensive against the Belkan Military, causing several deadly blows to the Belkans and driving them past areas B6R and B7R, where there seemed to be a perpetual stalemate between the two forces.

At the time, Ustio and Osea seemed to be able to drive the Belkans back to their northern regions, so Sapin and an allied army comprised of Oseans and Yuktobanians began an assault on the Southern Regions. These territories were liberated quickly, much earlier than their Northern counterparts, where the heavier fighting took place and, apparently, the Belkans were willing to sacrifice the Southern Regions to defend the North.

The fact that these territories surrendered peacefully  also aided in a quick end to the Southern portion of the war.

Nuclear Detonations in the Waldreich Mountains at South Belka and Lumen Peace Treaty

After the detonation of seven nuclear weapons in South Belka and the eventual cease-fire, Sapin forces took over the job of peacekeeping along with Osea in the Southern Regions and then, on June 20, the official peace accords of the Belkan war took place in Lumen being knowed as the Lumen Peace Treaty.

Around that same time, the Espada and Escudo squadrons were patrolling over the peace accords ceremony, when they were going to be relieved by Lanza and Armadura, the two squadrons found the runway was sabotaged, causing the eradication of both Lanza and Armadura, leaving Espada and Escudo to watch over the peace accords and be on stand-by alert should something happen over Gran Rugido.

A World With No Boundaries

Then, on Christmas Day, 1995, A World With No Boundaries revealed itself, by first attacking Lumen, the signing place of the peace accords and Valais Air Base with the XB-0 Hresvelgr, a Belka's experimental aircraft.

Escudo's flight lead (Alberto Lopez) transferred to Espada and became the flight lead after an assassination on the former leader lead by Marcela Vasquez. This betrayal was caused by a romantic relationship between Lopez and Vasquez, but also by the former flight lead's lack of cooperation towards the terrorist organization of "A World With No Boundaries".

The rest of Escudo team either manned sectors of the XB-0 or flew escorts to the XB-0 along with the new Espada duo, however, all Sapin escorts were shot down by the Ustian mercenary squadron Galm Team near the Stier Castle in South Belka after attacking the Valais Air Base.

Afterwards (1996 - )

Sapin became a peacefull again, no longer involved in military affairs, and instead focusing on their economy and their people.

However, the military remained in case there should ever be another catastrophe that drags the Sapinish and their neighbors with them.
