Skilled Pilot Medals were intended to partially replace the Ranking Tournament system by allowing players to earn their desired rewards, regardless of their tournament rank. However, Skilled Pilot Medals could only be obtained through Ranking Tournaments, and the amount earned per tournament depended on the earned rank.
Items were added to the Skilled Pilot Medal Exchange two times every month until April 15, 2017, which was the last update. None of these items expired until the game closed. Items tagged as NEW were not available in prior events and were introduced first to the medal exchange.
When old items that were previously available were added to the Skilled Pilot Medal Exchange, their price was determined by the original tournament tier required to earn them. For example, all items that were available to the top 3,000 players had cost the same amount: 8 medals.
If an item was available in two or more tournaments at different tiers, the highest tier was believed to be the one used for the price. For example, items that were available for the top 1,000 players in one tournament and the top 3,000 players in another would cost 20 medals, the top 1,000 price.
There were some rare exceptions to these general rules. For example, the "Yee-haw!" nickname, which was offered to 100,000 players, cost 2 medals in the Exchange. An item's tier in a tournament worked as a general guide for an expected price, as listed in the table below, but may have been different from its actual price once the item was added.
↑On June 15, 2016, the EA-18G -Beast-'s medal price was lowered to 20 medals. All players who purchased the aircraft at the original price received a full refund of 500 medals. See more information at the aircraft's article.
↑The only unique items awarded to 50,000 players were the "Bingo!" and "Area 88" nicknames. "Bingo!" was later made available as a top 100,000 reward. "Area 88" did not reappear in any tournament or in the medal shop.
