Solis Ortus is a town featured in Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. Situated in the mountains just southwest of the Ustio capital of Directus, Solis Ortus is a small mountain town. It is divided into three sections spread throughout the area, and based upon its location, Solis Ortus is probably a popular tourist attraction.
History
Belkan War
Main article: Operation Varsity During the Belkan War, Solis Ortus was occupied by the Belkan Military. The Belkan forces, mostly composed of Anti-Air, Surface-to-Air Missile Sites and Fighters, were surprise attacked at 0550 hours on May 12, 1995, when the Allied Nations launched Operation Varsity; involving an airborne invasion of Solis Ortus led by the Osean army 101st Airborne Division. With their transports escorted by the Ustian 6th Air Division's 66th AFU 'Galm', the 101st Airborne managed to liberate and secure Solis Ortus on the ground, while the Galm team performed an Air Superiority role and ensured top cover over Solis Ortus. With Solis Ortus liberated, the city had become a forward deployed position. This city became a key to taking back Directus, the Ustian capital city.
Trivia
- Interestingly enough, Op. Varsity shares it's codename with a very similar World War II airborne assault.
- Solis Ortus may be based on Baguio City in the Philippines. Fischer, an ace found on the map, may be a reference to Bobby Fischer, an American Chess grandmaster who lived in Baguio City. Both cities are mountain cities.
