- "They're faster than anything we've come across."
- ― AWACS Eagle Eye on Gelb Team's Su-37s[1]
The Su-37 Terminator is a multipurpose fighter aircraft. It made its Ace Combat debut in Ace Combat 2, but it's best known for its appearances as the official aircraft of Yellow Squadron in Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies and Gelb Team in Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War.
More recently, the Su-37 made its latest appearances in Ace Combat Infinity and Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.
Etymology
The Su-37's name used throughout the Ace Combat franchise, "Terminator", is not the real-life NATO reporting name. The nickname is believed to be directly adopted from Sukhoi, referring to the model's vastly improved electronics.[citation needed]
History
Strangereal
Terminators were first known to be deployed by Belka during the Belkan War, where some were manned by a handful of ace pilots during the conflict. The most famous were Orbert Jager and Rainer Altman of the Gelb Team, who were defeated by the Galm Team during the liberation of Directus after establishing Belkan dominance in the southern front.[1]
During the Usean coup d'état, Terminators were used in limited numbers by the Usean Rebel Forces. One of their aces, callsign "Ricochet", used the aircraft.[2]
During the Continental War, Terminators were famously flown by the Yellow Squadron, who used their skill in conjunction with its advanced technologies to achieve deadly results through the course of the war[3] until their destruction in the siege of Farbanti.[4] A batch of unused Terminators were obtained by the Megalith defense squadron in order to defend Megalith from the Independent State Allied Forces; the members of the squadron paid homage to Yellow Squadron by painting their Terminators in Yellow colors.[5]
During the Aurelian War, Su-37s were deployed by the Leasath Air Force throughout the conflict.[citation needed] The most notable unit was the air force's elite Chimera Squadron.
Joint Assault universe
Antares One[6] and Tolya Kiriakov[7][8] were known to have used the aircraft. Antares used it in the aftermath of the Golden Axe Plan.[6]
Assault Horizon universe
During the New Russian Federation uprising, the Su-37 was developed by Sukhoi after the birth of the New Russian Federation as a multipurpose, all-weather interceptor that built on the existing capabilities of the Su-27 Flanker-B. It proved successful enough to warrant the creation of an export model that replaced the Su-30, the Su-37K.[9]
Infinity universe
Terminators were available for use by UNF pilots during Operation Eternal Liberation. They were also used by the USEA Federation during that period.[10]

Trivia
- The appearance of the aircraft remains the same in the series except in Assault Horizon, Infinity and Skies Unknown, in which the Sorbtsiya ECM pods were replaced with wingtip missile launch rails.
- The Su-37 model used in Assault Horizon has the elevators and nozzles a bit swept down by default. It is unknown if this is a glitch or it was intentional.
