An F-15C Eagle firing the Pulse Laser

The Pulse Laser (PLSL) is a directed-energy weapon that appeared in Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere and Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

Design[]

In Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere, the Pulse Laser causes slightly higher damage and has better range than the standard Vulcan, and has a similar rate of fire.

In Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, the Pulse Lasers bear a resemblance to Machine Gun Pods; however, instead of bullets, laser bursts are fired directly ahead of the plane's position.[1] The lasers have a moderate rate of fire, but exceptional range, reaching upwards of 5,000 meters. They also deal remarkable damage compared to other machine gun type weapons.

The ADF-11F Raven and DarkStar use Pulse Laser as a standard weapon in place of Machine Gun. This particular version of Pulse Laser also has several differences: It has a moderately reduced rate of fire, and much lower range, only reaching around 2,000 meters. However, the damage-per-shot is identical to the special weapon version. Furthermore, the DarkStar can further equip a pair of Pulse Laser pods as special weapons in addition to its nose-mounted laser weapons.

Trivia[]

  • In Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, the Pulse Laser is diffused by clouds, unable to pierce through to hit targets within or beyond cloud cover.
  • It is believed that the reason for the F-15C and the MiG-31B having this special weapon could possibly be a reference to two characters from the franchise "Transformers", Starscream and Blitzwing respectively, from Generation 1, due to them also firing similar laser weaponry and having alternate modes which are very similar to the aforementioned fighters.
