• Is it all possible that Belka could be an allusion to Oswald Boelcke(German WWI Fighter Ace and the mentor of the Red Baron)? The pronuciations are somewhat similar, and It makes some sense in that Belka is very similar to Germany. Just curious to what others thought about it, since allusions to other fighters aces, like Hans-Joachim Marseille and Yellow 13, have been made as well.

    • Late reply: Yes, I think there is an allusion to Oswald Boelcke also considering that knightliness (sic) was very important to WW I pilots.

      But IMHO the more obvious allusion is to the Yugoslav Wars of the Balkan region in southeastern Europe which led to the breakup of former Yugoslavia and resulted in multiple nations.
