I was wondering a few things. First, what are the tiny flaps on the top of the F-22A's fuselage used for? Are they tiny, stealthier versions of the air brake found on aircraft like the F-15 and the Su-27? Second, why do the missiles stored in the F-22A's central missiles bay slide of their launchers instead of being punched out downwards like this ? Isn't that what's supposed to happen?
Anyways, thanks to anyone who answers my questions, these are just a few things that have been bugging me for a while.
1. you were spot on about the airbrakes. they are a stealhty version of the one used in the F-15. Its because the focus when developin g the 22, it shifted from aerobatics(yf-22 being more agile with maneuverability- biased aerodynamic parts+ thrust vectoring) to radar signature minimalisation.( the litte airbrake flaps+ more stealth biased aerodynamics).
i know they left the thrust vectoring for the f-22, so no hate comments bout that, please.
2. the internal missile lauch bay are designed for stealth in mind. besides dat frame cannot fit sidewinders with the other ordnance in the main bay and you must be able to engage A2A even when having A2G ordnance onboard. that´s why the sidewinders and/or amraams have their own lauchbay at the side.
PS: F-15 Silent Eagle is based on the research made with the f-22. It will have awesome A2A capabilities for a Gen4.5 fighter/bomber, Smaller radar signature , Supercruice(uncomfirmed), and its got the same avionics as the f-35 + the internal weapons bay for less drag & radar cross section.
HPAAs and QAAMs launch straight off the rails from the central bay just because thats how they're programmed to launch with every other plane in the game. 4AAMs will drop like how they do in real life, although notably with less of a delay.
