This question has been sufficiently answered - CIWS is the cause.

So I noticed while playing my FB-22 Aries in NTDM today that my standard missiles were not connecting with targets. I've never had this happen before. I usually use multiroles in NTDM, and I've never had a problem with standard missiles failing to hit targets (most likely due to CIWS fire).

I was using boom-and-zoom tactics, accelerating to around 1,200mph and then circling around and around to avoid missiles while I launched attacks at the bottom of every arc or loop. But for some reason, the missiles were not connecting.

I know that long range attacks from weapons like LASMs or other special weapons often get shot down if the CIWS is still up, but I've never seen standard missiles being destroyed. Additionally, only the Frigates seemed to cause this. If I switched to attack an Aegis ship or destroyer directly, I would have no problems, but the Frigates would constantly shoot down my missiles.

Is this a glitch? Is it because I was travelling at such high speeds? Is this a result of my using an attacker? I'm very confused, I've had some terrible games today because of this.

    • Nope, it's not a glitch. I've had the Aegis shoot down my missiles a handful of times while I was going offensive in a Fighter. It's why I've always focused my fire on them before doing anything else in an Attacker.

    • When the CIWS are active, they'll attempt to destroy every missile nearby. You have to destroy them first.

    • Yes, I can confirm CIWS fire against every missiles locked onto a ship.

It would be interesting to see if the CIWS can help enemy fighters by saving them from incoming enemy missiles...

This actually happens. If you go after an enemy plane flying over his fleet, it'll also try to destroy your missiles even if those are targeting the plane. That's why it's better to dogfight over your friendly fleet, with the odds in your favor.

    • Speaking of which, did you fire your missiles at VERY close ranges?

    • Not really. It was just a matter of dogfighting over the enemy fleet.

    • I can confirm this, it cost me a kill and a challenge reward... I was dogfighting with the top enemy player for a good minute and my missiles were finally going to connect and then the CIWS got them and he did a High-G turn and shot me down.

It's very odd that with all of the NTDM I've played I never noticed this... what's also odd is that I was in my ASF-X today firing LASMs off at the enemy fleet in between destroying enemy players and those hit perfectly fine...
