This page contains a transcript of "444th Air Base", the third cutscene in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. Both this and the previous cutscene, "This Means War", immediately play before starting "Charge the Enemy" during a campaign run.

Transcript

Scene fades to a monochromatic smoke trail from a plane wreckage.

Avril Mead (narrating): The world was screwed.

Scene cuts to Avril's unconscious body in her F-104.

Avril Mead (narrating): Twenty years ago...the Earth got slammed by an asteroid.

Scene begins showing a montage of the downed craft.

Avril Mead (narrating): Usea was on the wrong side of the planet and got hit. Hard. Refugees swarmed the Erusean Republic, the biggest country on the continent, plunging it into chaos. They were desperate and started a war...one they had no hope of winning.

The same F-15 that shot down Avril flies by as the scene cuts to a pair of F-15s flying through smoke.

Avril Mead (narrating): That's the war my dad fought and died in.[note 1]

Scene continues depicting the F-15s' flyby before cutting to monochrome sunlight.

Avril Mead (narrating): The biggest nations from two continents went head-to-head and the so-called righteous Oseans struck the deal that ended it.

Scene cuts to a lineup of F-18 tails.

Avril Mead (narrating): They fancied themselves the only nation that could bring peace and stability to the world.

Scene cuts to an F-18 taking off from a runway.

Avril Mead (narrating): They even tried saving the Useans, still suffering from the disaster.

Scene fades through the sunlight to an Our Science magazine; August 2018 volume 1033, titled "Usea Reconstruction: Space Elevator Nearing Completion", piled on another Our Science magazine, titled "Era of the Drones".

Avril Mead (narrating): That's how a space elevator, stretching way up into the sky, ended up being built in Usea… Paid for by the Oseans. President Harling said he did it out of compassion for his fellow humans. But to the folks in Erusea, it looked like Osea was moving in to take over.

Scene fades into the Erusean flag.

Avril Mead (narrating): Erusea went from being a republic, back to being a kingdom. When they started this new war, they managed to get the drop on everyone.

Scene cuts to a monochromatic version of the same broadcast from the previous cutscene, displayed on a TV screen.

Avril Mead (narrating): The second the declaration hit the news, Erusean forces took control of the space elevator without spilling a single drop of blood. President Harling was touring the elevator when it happened and disappeared.

Scene cuts to a different OBC newsreel, showing MQ-99s being launched from cargo ships to strike their targets. One of the UAV containers has the Gründer Industries logo.

Avril Mead (narrating): Then...while that was going on, the Erusean ships that were docked all around Osea released a swarm of drone fighters they had hidden onboard in containers.

Newsreel cuts to top-down footage of St. Hewlett being attacked by MQ-99s.

Avril Mead (narrating): No one thought they were capable of doing what they did that day. With pinpoint accuracy, they managed to take out everything that was military.

Newsreel cuts to the same scene where the targeted ports were X-ed out.

Avril Mead (narrating): And not a single civilian was hurt in the process.

Newsreel cuts to Heierlark Air Force Base's control tower exploding.

Avril Mead (narrating): Osea pissed lots of people of with their huge military presence around the world.

Newsreel cuts to footage of a trio of MQ-99s in flight.

Avril Mead (narrating): Erusea didn't have the same reach, but they could hit their targets faster and cleaner.

Newsreel cuts to a closeup of an MQ-99 before depicting the space elevator.

Avril Mead (narrating): And while all of this was going down, I just so happened to be in my flying drag racer.

Scene cuts to a quick flashback of Avril's shootdown before cutting to black and fading to Avril waking up.

Avril Mead (narrating): In case you were wondering, yeah...I survived.

Scene cuts to a cloud of smoke and again to Avril wearing a prosthetic on her left leg and handcuffs.

Avril Mead (narrating): I crashed in a bombed out Osean Air Force base. Then, got arrested for breaking wartime aviation laws ot some crap. The world went from being at peace...to being at war. All in the blink of an eye...

Scene shows Avril bending her head before showing a door.

Rosa Cossette D'Elise (on radio): I am Princess Rosa Cossette D'Elise of the Kingdom of Erusea. Today, Osean airstrikes have shattered the lives of countless Eruseans. Their attacks practically leveled the school I went to. It is heartbreaking... Tragic.

Footnotes

  1. Due to an apparent translation error/plot mistake, the Continental War is mistakenly implied to be the war Avril's father died in; therefore, this Reddit thread disproves this.
