The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial and space warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the American uniformed services. Before, the USAF was part of the United States Army as the United States Army Air Forces, along with many other anticedents, the USAF was formed as an independent branch of the military on September 18, 1947. USAF operates an estimated 5,573 manned aircraft and is currently the world's largest air force. It is also the most recent branch of the U.S. military to be formed, as well as the world's most technologically sophisticated air force.
