The X-02 Wyvern is an Erusean next-generation fighter aircraft designed and created by EASA.
History
Creation
In the late 1980s, the Erusean Navy issued a request for the development of a new combat aircraft, one which could also be used by the Air Force. The creation process was taken up by a coalition of indigenous manufacturing brands led by EASA. Preliminary blueprints for the jet, named the "X-02A", were already complete by late February 1987.
Construction of full-scale development units started in the '90s, and the maiden flight took place in 1998. It is unknown whether the project was disrupted by the Usean Rebellion a year prior. Shortly after the event, rumors of the Wyvern's existence leaked to neighboring nations, prompting them to carry out their own aviation projects.
Continental War
Production of the Wyvern progressed unimpeded up to mid-2003, when the Continental War was triggered by the Erusean takeover of Stonehenge. The government of Erusea announced plans to build Wyverns to act as the "guardians" of the facility; opposition groups announced their discontent, citing the utility of conventional aircraft in comparision to the new X-02. The controversy engulfed the Erusean parliament, eventually halting the production process.
The worsening military situation of Erusea and the fall of Stonehenge in April 2005 triggered the hasty restart of the aircraft's development, hampered by a lack of funds and supplies. In preparation for battlefield deployment, live-fire missile tests were conducted by EASA in the following months. A batch of fully operational airframes were delivered to the capital of Farbanti, which laid unused until the ISAF siege of the city in September. The Wyverns were seized and later subjected to combat simulacrums, in which they were estimated to be superior to even the F-22A Raptor.
In 2006, several X-02s in an experimental UCAV configuration were seized by Free Erusea in their continental uprising. The jets were deployed as a last resort during Mobius One's siege of the White Valley arms factory used as their base, but were destroyed. After the uprising's end, they were recovered by the ISAF for research.
Osea
In 2006, the cessation of hostilities allowed post-war Erusea to establish trade relations with Yuktobania, securing a deal involving the sale of an unspecified number of license-built Wyverns made by Gründer Industries. The Gründer model, dubbed simply as "X-02", was functionally identical to the original version, and was subjected to the company's cost-cutting development techniques.
A lone Yuktobanian Wyvern made an unauthorized incursion to Osean Federation airspace in mid-2010, and was shot down by the Self Defense Forces anti-aircraft network, the fate of the pilot a mystery. The remains were salvaged and covertly sent to Sand Island to avoid an international scandal, where it was handled to the 703rd Maintenance Company. Upon the end of the war, a Gründer Wyvern flew along an ADF-01 and its ADFX-01 precursor in a November City airshow.
